According to news reports, the woman was on her third day on duty as a Waller County Sherriff’s deputy.
October 31, 2018 – 9:30 pm: The 23-year-old Loren Vasquez, a new deputy for the Waller County Sheriff’s Office, was killed on Wednesday night in a single-vehicle accident.
The accident happened near Hoover Road on the northbound part of FM 362, southwest of Hockley. Rain was coming down hard at the time, and the roadway was wet and slick.
Vasquez was on her third day on duty as a deputy, and at the time of the accident, she was reported to be driving at high speeds.
Her patrol vehicle drove into a pool of water on the road, going airborne as a result. The vehicle ended up upside-down in a ditch by the side of the road. The ditch was full of water, which filled her vehicle. She was unable to get out.
Deputies arrived on the scene soon afterward. Vasquez was removed from her patrol car and was declared dead when she arrived at Memorial Herman Hospital, in Cypress.
Her body has been taken to a medical examiner’s office, where an autopsy will determine the precise cause of death. The accident is still under investigation.
