Woman Dies in Single-Vehicle Wreck in Corpus Christi

September 10, 2018

News reports indicate that the woman was a student at Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

September 10, 2018 – 11:30 am: A Texas A&M Corpus Christi student was killed Monday morning in a single-vehicle accident on I-37 in Corpus Christi.

The accident took place on the turnaround before Redbird Lane.

Aspen Salazar (21), of Kyle, was driving southbound on I-37 Monday morning. She took the turnaround too fast, losing control of the vehicle. The vehicle first hit a concrete barrier and then crashed into a freeway support column, where it came to rest.

First responders arrived on the scene shortly after the accident, at which time Salazar was pronounced dead on the scene. According to police, Salazar was killed instantly.

Rainy weather and wet road conditions are being blamed for the accident. Salazar’s crash was only one of five crashes along I-37 during Monday morning’s rain, although, fortunately, this was the only accident with any fatalities.

Police advise drivers to pay attention to their speed during rainy weather, especially when taking curves. Lt. Timothy Frazier of the Corpus Christi Police Department told drivers, “Basically just watch your speed. Just watch how fast you’re going.”
