Two Police Officers Injured in High-Speed Chase

According to news reports, the driver the officers were pursuing kept going but was eventually stopped and arrested.

 

February 18, 2019 – 1:20 am: Two police officers were injured in a crash that took place after a high-speed chase early on Monday morning. The officers were driving an SUV, which caught fire after the crash. Both officers have been taken to the hospital and are expected to survive.

The chase began on the 3500 block of Hutchins. After about an hour, the crash took place along the northbound feeder of Highway 288 and Blodgett.

The crash took place after the police made a failed attempt to stop the vehicle they were pursuing, bumping it from behind. The driver lost control of the HPD SUV, leading to the crash.

The SUV caught fire. Both officers were injured and taken to the hospital, where they are expected to recover. According to HPD Sergeant Jesus Uribe, “The officers are good. They’re in pain. They have some back pain, neck pain, transported to the hospital for a checkup.”

The driver the officers were pursuing kept going but has since been arrested. He is expected to face criminal charges in connection with the crash.
