One survivor of the crash admitted that the vehicle was headed from Mexico to Houston at the time of the accident.
March 6, 2019 – 7:43 pm: Two undocumented immigrants were killed and two were injured in a crash that took place Wednesday evening in Fannin, Texas. One survivor of the accident, identified as Ricardo Dela Cruz, said that the vehicle was headed from Mexico to Houston.
The crash took place on Highway 59, near Fannin. The three were in a 2003 Chevy Tahoe, which was headed northbound when the car drifted off the roadway and rolled over several times. It eventually came to rest upside down in the grass.
One passenger was found dead on the scene of the accident, while another died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. There were reportedly several other passengers in the car at the time of the crash. A second injured passenger was found a few miles away from the scene of the accident after fleeing on foot. He was identified as Gearson Adolfo Gamez Mendoza.
The cause of the crash is unknown at this time. DPS and Border Patrol agents are searching for the remaining passengers and investigation into the crash is ongoing.
