Two Men Dead in Single-Car Crash

News reports state that the Garza County crash took place on U.S. Highway 84, about 15 miles east of Post.

September 9, 2018 – 2:00 pm: Robert Gayle Howe (66), and Daniel Justin Howe (34), both from Clyde, were killed in a single-vehicle crash on Sunday afternoon.

The accident took place about 15 miles east of Post on Highway 84. The two men were traveling in a Dodge Durango at the time.

Robert Howe was driving west when he lost control of the vehicle and hit a guard rail. After hitting the rail, the vehicle went into the center median and ended up in a drainage culvert.

Both men were pronounced dead on the scene when the Texas Department of Public Safety arrived.

At this time, it unclear what caused the drive to lose control. The accident is currently under investigation by local law enforcement.

Single vehicle crashes are a major cause of traffic deaths in Texas. In 2017, single vehicle accidents were responsible for 1,313 deaths in Texas. This accounts for 35%, or just over one in three, of the deaths on Texas roads last year.
