Teacher’s Aide Killed in Crash North of Pleasanton

Police reports state that the woman was a teacher’s aide at Ella Barnes Elementary School.

October 3, 2018 – 9:40 pm: Casey Cunningham, 32, was hit by the side of Interstate 37 and died last Wednesday night, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The accident took place about six miles north of Pleasanton on I-37, where Cunningham was standing outside of her vehicle after it had broken down.

A 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt hit Cunningham while she was standing by the side of the road. Almost immediately afterward, a 2009 Saturn Aura and a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado hit each other while attempting to avoid hitting the Cobalt.

When troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety reached the location, Cunningham was pronounced dead at the scene. None of the drivers involved in the accident were injured.

DPS troopers are still investigating the cause of the crash. It is unknown why the Cobalt’s driver was unable to avoid hitting Cunningham. At this time police have not confirmed whether or not any charges will be filed in the case.
