News reports state that the Terry County accident took place when the man failed to stop at a stop sign at an intersection.
September 10, 2018 – 6:00 am: Marco Antonio Ramirez of La Villa died in a single-vehicle accident Monday morning in Terry County.
The accident took place at the intersection of FM 303 and U.S. Highway 62, according to Sgt. John Gonzalez of the Texas Department of Public Safety. Ramirez was driving a Chevrolet passenger vehicle along FM 303 early Monday morning.
Ramirez was traveling southeast at the time of the accident, at which time he crossed the median and the northbound lanes of the highway. The Chevrolet continued into a ditch east of U.S. 62. It hit a metal structure, flipped end-over-end, and came to a rest in a pasture.
Ramirez was killed in the accident and pronounced dead at the scene when officers of the Texas Department of Public Safety arrived.
Single vehicle crashes of this kind are a major cause of death on Texas roads. In 2017, these types of crashes caused 1,313 deaths in Texas – more than three deaths per day. This amounts to more than 35% of all motor vehicle traffic deaths in Texas in 2017.
