Bicyclist Struck and Killed by School Bus

The cyclist was pronounced dead on the scene after being hit by a school bus with one child on board.

March 7, 2019 – 3:05 pm: A male bicyclist was hit by a Houston Independent School District (HISD) bus on Thursday afternoon. The victim has not been identified at this time, but he was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The crash happened at the intersection of East 8th Street and Heights Boulevard, where the bus was finishing its afternoon route.

The cause of the accident is unknown at this time. Police do not comment on the circumstances leading up to the crash. However, it is known that the driver and one student were on the school bus at the time of the crash. Neither was injured in the accident.

None of those involved in the accident have been publicly identified at this time.

The scene of the accident was closed down for a few hours after the crash took place. Police advised drivers to avoid the area if they could.

HISD Transportation Services are cooperating with the Houston Police Department to the fullest extent possible. Investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
