September 25, 2018 – 5:30 pm: A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a tractor-trailer in Fort Worth on Tuesday afternoon.
The accident happened on the northbound side of Interstate 35W in Fort Worth, near the Texas Motor Speedway.
Police arrived on the scene shortly after the accident took place, pronouncing the individual dead at the scene. No information has yet been released regarding the identity of the victim or of the semi truck’s driver.
Fort Worth police are still investigating the crash. They have not yet released any details of what caused the accident.
Accidents involving pedestrians are more likely than other crashes to lead to serious injuries or death. This is no surprise, considering that pedestrians are much more exposed than drivers of motor vehicles.
In 2017, a total of 614 pedestrians were killed in Texas, out of a total of 5,767 accidents. That means a little more than one in ten pedestrians is killed in an accident with a motor vehicle. When that motor vehicle happens to be a big rig traveling at highway speeds, the potential for death or serious injury is even higher.
