According to news reports, the man was killed while inspecting the scene of an accident in thick fog early in the morning.
November 5, 2018 – 9:00 am: 92-year-old Pete Moralez was killed in an accident in Victoria on Tuesday morning, when he was hit while inspecting his vehicle after a prior crash.
Both accidents took place at the intersection of U.S. 87 and Guadalupe Road in Victoria.
Moralez’s 2016 Honda Accord had previously been damaged, and he was outside of the vehicle examining the damage. A 2017 Jeep Cherokee, driven by the 65-year-old Maria Louisa Hall, hit the Accord in the thick fog.
The force of the impact spun the Accord 45 degrees, causing it to hit Moralez. Moralez died in the accident. Hall received minor injuries in the crash. She was taken to DeTar Hospital Navarro and released later on Tuesday afternoon.
Sgt. Ruben San Miguel, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, says that reduced visibility from the fog was a likely contributor to the accident. He advised drivers, “In the fog, reduce the speed and be on the lookout for disabled vehicles.”
The accident is still being investigated at this time.
