According to news reports, the driver responsible for the crash failed to yield the right of way, leading to the other driver’s death.
March 20, 2019 – 7:50 pm: Rene Israel Villarreal was killed in an accident that took place on Wednesday evening in Victoria County. The other driver in the crash was 19-year-old William Alexander Orbson. As of Thursday, Orbson had not been charged with any crime in connection with the crash.
The accident took place at the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 1090 and U.S. 87. Orbson was making a left turn from U.S. 87 onto FM 1090. He was headed southbound on U.S. 87 at the time of the crash, and reportedly failed to yield the right of way to Villarreal, who was headed northbound.
Sgt. Ruben San Miguel of the Texas Department of Public Safety said of Orbson, “He failed to yield right of way, and he was distracted.”
Villarreal was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. He was taken to Citizens Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Orbson was also taken to Citizens Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The accident is still under investigation at this time.
