One Dead, One Injured in Single-Vehicle Crash in Gregg County

According to news reports, the accident happened when the driver swerved to avoid another vehicle, losing control of his car in the process.

 

November 12, 2018 – 4:39 pm: The 19-year-old Cole Canton Small, of Marshall, was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Gregg County on Monday afternoon. A passenger in his vehicle, the 20-year-old Thorpe Shannon Young, was injured in the accident and is currently hospitalized in stable condition.

The crash happened on Mackey Road, near Longview in Gregg County.

Cole Canton Small was driving his Nissan Altima south on Mackey Road. He had just reached the top of a hill when he is reported to have swerved to avoid a northbound vehicle that was turning across his path.

Small lost control of the vehicle, possibly because of the wet road conditions. The Nissan hit a power pole after leaving the roadway.

Small was killed in the impact and pronounced dead on the scene after officers from the Texas Department of Public Safety arrived. His passenger, Thorpe Shannon Young, was injured and taken to the hospital in stable condition.

The accident is still under investigation at this time. It is unknown what role the wet roads may have played in the crash.
