One Killed in Early-Morning Travis County Crash

According to news reports, a vehicle veered into oncoming traffic and hit another car head-on, causing the accident.

 

January 22, 2019 – 6:45 am: One unidentified male was killed in an accident that took place in Travis County on Tuesday morning, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The accident took place on Highway 290, near the 8000 block of Tara Lane in Travis County.

Reports from DPS indicate that the vehicle was headed eastbound on 290 at the time of the crash. For reasons that are not clear at this time, the driver veered into the westbound lane, moving into the path of oncoming traffic and hitting another vehicle head-on.

The driver of the vehicle that veered into the wrong lane was taken to South Austin Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and died shortly after his arrival.

Reports do not comment on any occupants of the other vehicle. It does not appear that the other driver or any passengers were injured in the accident.

A tweet from the Austin-Travis County EMS warned drivers in the area to expect delays.

The cause of the crash is not clear. The accident is still being investigated as of this time.
