Motorcyclist Killed in Crash with Garbage Truck

According to news reports, this was the first traffic fatality of 2019 in San Marcos.

February 28, 2019 – 2:22 am: Armando Puentes, 45, was killed when he crashed his motorcycle into a garbage truck in the very early hours of Thursday morning. The driver of the garbage truck was not injured in the accident.

The crash took place on the 300 block of Staples Road in San Marcos.

According to the Collision Investigation Team (CIT), the garbage truck was dumping a large dumpster at the time of the accident. It was blocking the roadway, and Puentes hit the truck. He died shortly after the crash.

According to San Marcos police, Puentes’ black Harley Davidson motorcycle was found near the garbage truck.

There is no word on whether alcohol was a factor in the crash. An autopsy has been ordered, but it has not yet been performed. The cause of the crash is not known with certainty at this time.

Investigation and cleanup caused the roadway to be closed for about three hours after the crash.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing, and police will release more information as it becomes available.
