Man Dies in Single-Car Accident in Third Ward

According to news reports, the man was speeding when he lost control of his vehicle, leading to Sunday night’s accident.

 

January 21, 2019 – 9:30 pm: A male driver is dead after crashing his car into a tree in the Third Ward on Sunday night. At this time, it is unknown whether the man was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

The accident took place on the 3800 block of Emancipation, where the man was driving his Corvette too fast for conditions.

According to Houston Police Sgt. Alisa Smith, the man lost control of his vehicle, hitting a tree. The Corvette wrapped around the tree, trapping the man so that he had to be extracted from the car when emergency responders arrived.

The man was conscious and talked to first responders when they arrived. However, his condition deteriorated and he died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Police have not yet released the identity of the man killed in the accident. No one else was harmed in the crash, and no other vehicles were involved. Police are still investigating the accident, which may or may not have been the result of driver intoxication.
