According to police, speed, alcohol, and not wearing a seat belt were all factors in the single-vehicle accident.
March 15, 2019 – 12:33 am: An Amarillo man was critically injured in a single-vehicle accident that took place very early on Friday morning. The man, who has not been publicly identified, has been taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The crash took place on I-40, near the I-27 interchange. The driver of the vehicle had been headed eastbound on I-40 in a 1999 Chevrolet 1500.
The driver was speeding at the time of the crash. He lost control, the vehicle went into a spin, hit the south retaining wall, and slid along it for several hundred feet. The driver was ejected from the vehicle.
Police state that the man’s speed was a factor in the crash, along with alcohol and not wearing a seat belt. The three of these combined contributed heavily to the accident.
The man has been taken to a local hospital with what are described as life-threatening injuries. There is no further word on the man’s condition at this time. The Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department is investigating the crash.
