Several Injuries in Crash Involving Prison Van

According to news reports, the prison van burst into flames shortly after being struck by a pickup truck on Monday morning.

November 5, 2018 – 11:45 am: Two Harris County Sheriff’s deputies and six prison inmates received non-life-threatening injuries Monday morning when a pickup truck ran a red light and hit a prison van.

The accident took place at the corner of Jackson and Commerce, just outside of Minute Made Park. The van was transporting prisoners when the pickup reportedly ran the red light and T-boned the van.

The deputies and the inmates on board were able to evacuate the van before it burst into flames, but everyone on board was injured. They were all hospitalized with what are reportedly minor injuries.

Firefighters from the Houston Fire Department arrived on the scene shortly later and were able to bring the flames under control.

According to officials on the scene, the driver of the pickup truck was not injured in the accident. He may face charges for causing the accident, although there has not been any definite word on that. According to news reports, the man may have been running late for an appointment at the time of the accident.

This crash is still under investigation at this time.
