Two Injured When Crashing 18-Wheelers Cause Hazmat Spill

October 1, 2018

According to news reports, the cause of the accident is still unknown at this time.

October 1, 2018 – 1:00 pm: Two 18-wheelers crashed on Monday afternoon, causing non-life-threatening injuries to both drivers and leading to a hazmat spill that took several hours to clean up.

The accident happened at the intersection of I-69 and FM 1314, near Porter in Montgomery County.

Two 18-wheelers collided while driving on the interstate—one of them carrying diesel fuel, the other one carrying oil. According to Erik Burse, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, the two trucks “ended up touching each other. How they did that, I’m not sure.”

Traffic was initially shut down along northbound I-69, but one lane was opened after that. Burse reported that all four lanes of northbound I-69 would be opened after 4 P.M. Unfortunately, however, the whole road was closed once again shortly after 4 P.M., and was closed for several hours afterwards. Presumably cleanup crews had a harder time than expected clearing the fuel spilled on the highway.

The accident is still under investigation, and the condition of the drivers involved has not been updated as of now.
