Five Killed in North Texas Crash

According to news reports, one of those who was killed in the crash was police chief of the town of Spurgeon.

March 24, 2019 – 10:00 am: Five people were killed in a crash that took place near Bardwell, about 40 miles south of Dallas. The dead include police chief Michael Spurgeon Sr., 67, Michael Spurgeon Jr., 40, Jose Munoz, 31, an 8-year-old boy, and a 5-year-old girl.

The accident happened on Texas 34, near Bardwell.

The Spurgeons were headed eastbound on Texas 34 when Munoz’s pickup truck, headed westbound, veered into the path of the car and hit it head-on. All five of the people involved in the head-on collision were killed in the wreck.

The cause of the accident is unknown at this time. According to Staff Sgt. Sara Warren of the Texas Department of Public Safety, it is still unclear why Munoz lost control of the pickup and swerved into the wrong lane.

The names of the two children killed in the wreck have not been released at this time, nor has their relationship with Munoz been made clear.

The crash is still under investigation at the present time, and more information will be made available as it comes to light.
