September 20, 2018 – 6:25 am: An eight-vehicle wreck killed a mother and her three children on Thursday morning near S. Major Drive on I-10. A couple of hours later, a man from Lake Charles died after his pickup truck hit the back of an 18-wheeler.
The first accident killed Chelsea Stanbury, 36, Anthony Stanbury Jr., 10, Anaiyah Stanbury, 8, and Chase Stanbury, 6. Several other vehicles were involved in the accident, some of which caught fire after the crash. Police have not yet released a statement giving the cause of the accident.
The second crash killed the 45-year-old Dennis Carlin, who was traveling westbound on I-10 near the Goodyear plant. He hit the rear end of an 18-wheeler and was killed in the accident.
Both of these accidents took place along a dangerous stretch of road between Beaumont and Winnie that has been the site of a number of major accidents in the past. Most notably, heavy fog in the area caused a pileup involving more than 100 vehicles back in 2012.
Both accidents are still under investigation at this time.
