Houston police say that the women were traveling northbound on Highway 6 in west Houston when the accident occurred.
September 2, 2018 – 11:30 am: On Sunday morning, a large oak tree fell on Highway 6 in west Houston. Two women were injured when the tree fell directly onto their vehicle.
The accident took place near the Addicks Reservoir shortly before noon on Sunday morning.
Houston police report that the women were traveling northbound on Highway 6 at the time of the accident. When the oak tree fell, it blocked traffic in the northbound lane for several hours.
Houston Police and Fire Department personnel were sent onto the scene to get the women out of their vehicle and clear the tree off of the roadway.
The women were both taken to the hospital with reportedly minor injuries and were listed in stable condition. They are both expected to make a full recovery. Fire department personnel cleared the tree from the road within a few hours of the accident.
There is no word at the moment as to what caused the oak tree to fall, or whether reasonable precautions were taken to prevent it from falling onto the road.
