Police report that the man’s Cadillac was having mechanical issues, which appear to be the main factor causing the two-vehicle accident.
March 23, 2019 – 4:30 am: Juan Antonio Vasquez, 25, was killed in a two-vehicle accident that took place early on Saturday morning. Police believe alcohol intoxication was not a factor in the crash.
The accident took place on the 5000 block of I-45. Southbound Gulf Freeway was closed from Holland Road to FM 1764 for a few hours after the crash.
According to police, the Cadillac Vasquez was driving had been having mechanical trouble and stalled in the middle lane of the freeway. Police believe the driver of the pickup truck behind Vasquez did not see the stalled vehicle, leading to the crash.
Vasquez was pronounced dead on the scene of the accident once police arrived. His identity was not released to the public until Sunday.
The driver of the pickup that hit Vasquez has not been publicly identified at this time, and there is no information available on the driver’s current condition.
Police believe the accident was the result of a lack of visibility and the unfortunate fact that the Cadillac stalled in the middle of the freeway.
