Driver Killed by Runaway Trailer in Montgomery County

According to news reports, the trailer came unhitched and hit another vehicle at high speed on Thursday afternoon.

 

November 15, 2018 – 2:00 pm: An unidentified driver has been killed in a collision with a trailer that came unhooked on the roadway. The driver of the vehicle that had been towing the trailer was not injured and has not been cited in the crash.

The crash took place on Highway 242 in Montgomery County, near the San Jacinto River. According to Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Erik Burse, “It’s a main funnel from I-45 to FM 1314. So it was a mess.”

For unknown reasons, the trailer of a vehicle driving westbound came unhooked, drifting into the eastbound lane, where it hit another vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle hit was killed in the crash, and one person in a third vehicle was hospitalized with injuries from the accident.

The driver of the truck that lost its trailer was not hurt in the accident. Troopers investigating the crash say the driver was cooperative and helped them with the investigation as much as possible.

Traffic was closed for about three hours after the crash. The accident is currently under investigation.
