Two Injured in Crash Involving Two 18-Wheelers

News reports indicate that the eastbound lanes of Interstate 30 were closed for several hours after the accident.

September 24, 2018 – 4:00 am: Two semi-trucks were in a crash Monday morning, causing both drivers to suffer injuries.

The accident took place on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 30 at FM 990 in Bowie County. Traffic in the eastbound lanes is shut down while the accident is under investigation. In addition, simply clearing the wreckage from the interstate is expected to add several hours to the closure.

Both drivers involved in the accident suffered minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital.

The investigation is underway, although representatives from the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office have not yet released their conclusions about the cause of the accident. The identities of the drivers involved have also not been released at this time.

Fortunately, the drivers in this crash were not severely injured. Crashes involving semi-trucks tend to be more severe than other crashes. According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, there were 475,000 police-reported crashes involving large trucks in 2016. Out of that total, there were 3,864 fatal crashes.

Drivers in Bowie County were advised to take alternate routes on FM 990 or FM 561.
