November 14, 2018 – 4:00 pm: A six-year-old girl was seriously injured by a stray bullet fired by a security guard who was pursuing a suspected shoplifter.
The incident took place outside of the T-Mobile on Airline Drive, where a suspected shoplifter, 18-year-old Earnest Hudson, had allegedly stolen an iPhone. When Hudson fled the store, security guard Christopher Bradley pursued him and opened fire, shooting 10 shots in total.
Six-year-old Claire Tidwell was in her family’s car at a nearby McDonald’s drive-thru. One of Bradley’s bullets grazed the girl’s right leg before entering her left leg and becoming lodged there.
Claire was in surgery for three hours to have the bullet removed, and according to news reports her recovery will not be an easy one. She may have nerve damage, which could lead to long-term difficulties.
The girl’s family is not insured and has set up a GoFundMe account to help with medical costs.
Christopher Bradley is in police custody at this time. He has not been charged at this time, but he may face charges of aggravated assault.
