According to news reports, the man lived for two days after the accident, eventually succumbing to his injuries.
January 27, 2019 – 12:00 pm: William Brown, 24, of Fort Worth was killed when an e-cigarette exploded in his face late last month. Although the explosion took place on January 27, Brown did not die until January 29.
According to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office, Brown was using the vaporizer pen at an e-cigarette shop in Keller when the explosion took place. The name of the shop has not been made public at this time.
The Examiner’s Office reports that the explosion severed Brown’s carotid artery and peppered his skull. Brown was rushed to the hospital, but died two days after the explosion.
The cause of the e-cigarette’s failure is not clear at this time.
Explosions of this type are not unheard-of. Two Houston men sued LG Chemicals in September 2018 after being seriously burned in e-cigarette explosions. Tallmadge D’Elia, 38, of St. Petersburg, Florida, was killed in May 2018 when an exploding vape pen sent a pair of fragments into his skull and burned 80% of his body.
Brown’s death is still under investigation.
