Border Patrol Agent Killed in Crash West of Abilene

According to news reports, the woman was a 16-year veteran of the Border Patrol.

 

February 2, 2019 – 8:15 pm: Donna Doss, 49, was killed while on duty after being hit by a passing vehicle during a vehicle stop. The driver who hit her, a 79-year-old man from Merkel, has not been identified and will not be publicly identified unless he is charged with a crime.

The accident took place just west of Abilene, on the southbound service road of I-20 near mile marker 276. Doss was aiding the Texas Department of Public Safety with a stop at the time of the accident.

Doss was crossing the service road when she was hit by the vehicle, which was headed westbound at the time.

The Abilene Police Department is currently helping with the investigation. According to Abilene Police Chief Stan Standridge, “We have been in contact with all involved agencies, both that night and again today.”

Senator Ted Cruz commented on social media, “Sad to hear of the death of BP Agent Donna Ross. Please join me in praying for her family in the wake of their loss. Let us always remember & remain grateful for the Border Patrol Agents & their families who make courageous sacrifices to protect Texas & our country.”

Investigation into the accident is ongoing.
