According to news reports, the Texas City teen was riding his bike at the time of the crash.
January 23, 2019 – 6:20 pm: The 15-year-old Jason Trevino Jr. was hit and killed by a train while riding on his bike on Wednesday evening. According to the high school student’s family, he was headed home on his bike at the time of the accident.
According to police, Trevino was trying to cross the train tracks along Oak Street in Texas City on Wednesday evening, and the train gave a warning signal before the accident took place.
Trevino was a sophomore at La Marque High School. Shone Evans, the head football coach, says, “Jason was an incredibly special young man. He was the type of person that would do anything for anyone.”
LMHS Principal Ricky G. Nicholson, Jr. stated that, “Jason exemplified all the qualities of a model student. He made it a point to do EVERYTHING the right way.”
News reports state that Trevino is the fifth child in Texas City to have died in the past four weeks.
The Union Pacific Railroad is investigating the accident at this time. The cause of the event is currently unknown.
