One Killed, One Injured in Disabled Car Crash

According to news reports, the car stalled in a moving lane, leading to a 5-vehicle accident.

 

January 20, 2019 – 2:00 am: One man was killed and a woman was critically injured in a 5-car accident that led to several hours of road closures early on Sunday morning.

The accident took place on the West Loop, near Beechnut. The driver of the car was in a moving lane of traffic when his vehicle engine stalled.

The driver of the vehicle behind the car tried to avoid hitting it, but couldn’t. This initial crash started a chain reaction, in which three more vehicles were involved.

The man in the disabled car was killed in the accident. A woman who was in the car was hospitalized in critical condition. The identities of those involved in the crash have not been released at this time.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash. They do not know at this time if alcohol was a factor in the accident, nor is it clear why the vehicle was disabled in the traffic lane.

The area surrounding the crash was closed for several hours after the accident took place.
