Police report that they were called onto the scene when a single-vehicle crash was reported early Thursday morning.

September 13, 2018 – 6:00 am: The 72-year-old William Hill has died after a single-vehicle crash Thursday morning outside of a Costco in Lubbock.

The accident occurred in the parking lot of the Costco at 6020 34th Street, where Hill’s SUV struck a light pole.

Hill was taken to University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Units from the Lubbock Police Department’s crash investigation team mapped out the crash site and are working on their investigation. Hill was the only person involved in the crash, and his SUV was the only vehicle.

LPD spokeswoman Tiffany Taylor reported that the crash team was still working to determine the cause of the crash. There is no word at this time regarding whether or not Hill was intoxicated at the time of the crash, or the accident was caused by something else.

Single-vehicle accidents of this type are often the result of fatigue, distraction, or intoxication on the part of the driver. Until the police finish their investigation, it will be difficult to determine which of the three was the cause of this accident.
