News reports say that two vehicles were involved in the crash that killed the women, who were trying to save a dog in the middle of the road.
September 2, 2018 – 8:00 pm: Two women and one dog were killed in a two-vehicle accident Sunday night. The accident took place on the corner of FM 517 and Houston Avenue.
The victims were later identified as 69-year-old Linda Kirkland and 66-year-old Martha Arvidsson. The two women had gotten out of their vehicles to help a dog that was in the middle of the road.
A third vehicle, a 2017 Infiniti driven by a 36-year-old Friendswood resident whose identity has not been made public, hit the car belonging to one of the women. Both women and the dog were killed in the crash, although the driver of the third vehicle was unharmed.
The driver of the third vehicle remained on the scene and cooperated fully with HPD when they arrived.
Eastbound lanes were closed for several hours while the police investigated the scene of the accident.
The investigation into the crash is still ongoing because it’s still not clear how the accident occurred.
