According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the man killed in the crash was the 58-year-old Tony Alvarez, of Houston.
April 17, 2019 – 4:30 pm: A 58-year-old man from Houston was killed in a crash that took place on Wednesday afternoon in Orange County, Texas. The other driver involved in the crash was taken to a hospital in Galveston with serious burns and injuries.
The crash took place on Interstate 10 in Orange County, in the area of mile marker 858.
According to police, a dump truck was headed westbound on I-10 when one of its tires blew out. It then hit a Ford flatbed truck. Then the dump truck hit a concrete wall, rolled over onto its side, and burst into flames.
Leon David May II, 43, the driver of the dump truck, was seriously injured and has since been hospitalized. Tony Alvarez, the driver of the Ford, was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Westbound lanes of I-10 were closed in the aftermath of the accident, and were not reopened until early on Thursday morning. The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the cause of the accident.
